Programme structure

The BA in Global and Development Studies is an interdisciplinary programme which aims to equip students with an in-depth understanding of the processes of globalisation in various spheres of human activity: law, politics, economy, history, social relations, culture and communication. Students gain core knowledge of the processes of globalisation and international development, the multifaceted aspects thereof and their influence on the contemporary world. The programme is structured in such a way that allows students to focus either on a selected part of the world, or specific global problems and challenges.

The Programme is taught at the Faculty of Political and International Studies (FIPS) of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow – the oldest and the best HEI in Poland and one of the leading universities in the region. This ensures high quality of teaching and a vibrant and inspiring academic environment. The FIPS is a truly multidisciplinary unit, which is of great significance when it comes to issues connected to globalisation and development. We provide expertise in many different areas not only limited to traditional politics and IR, but also fields such as humanitarian aid, environmental protection, public health, media and communication. This is amplified by the fact that various units at FIPS are specialised in specific regions of the world, which allows us to connect distinct phenomena of globalisation and development to particular geographical locations.

Programme graduates will have acquired knowledge of the principal traditional and contemporary trends in global sociology, philosophy, politics and economy. This programme also serves as the first step towards continuing one’s academic career on a graduate and postgraduate level in the fields of international relations, area studies, political science or economy. Graduates are prepared to find employment in public administration, national and international institutions and organisations, non-governmental organisations, international companies, cultural institutions, media and publishing.
